Product Description:

First released at MacWorld in 2005, ScanTango has rapidly become the first choice of professionals that require high-speed conversion and distribution of documents in PDF or TIFF format. ScanTango's support for bar-coded “patch cards in scan batches enable the input of multiple documents in a single operation and changes to scanner settings on the fly. The application comes complete with built-in drivers for Fujitsu's production-quality workgroup duplex document scanners along with selected USB-powered sheetfed mobile scanners by Syscan Imaging, Inc.

ScanTango's Preview-like interface also supports viewing and editing of PDF files as well as redaction of sensitive information. PDF documents may be merged and pages may be imported or exported by simply dragging thumbnails to and from the desktop. Documents may be automatically distributed using save to disk, e-mail, FTP, print, and fax.

What's new in this version:

  • Added support for the Fujitsu S300M (Mobile Mac ScanSnap).
  • Added support for the Fujitsu fi-6130 and fi-6230 scanners.
  • Added support for 'Expert Settings' in the scanner setup dialog. If your scanner does not support any expert settings, this option will not appear. Currently, only the Fujitsu fi-6130 and fi-6230 scanners have expert settings.
  • Added setup tips for selected scanners (currently only the Fujitsu fi-6130 and fi-6230). Scanners that have setup tips available will see a 'Show Setup Tips' button in the scanner setup dialog.
  • We changed the way we handle registrations and demos. Formerly, unregistered copies of ScanTango would not attempt to use a supported scanner until the software was registered. Until then, only the emulated Demo Scanner was available. With 2.5, we will now detect and operate with any supported scanner. However, if you have not yet registered ScanTango or if your registration is for a lower tier of scanners, all images scanned will show a gentle 'Please Register Scantango!' message. The message is removed instantly upon registration for the needed scanner tier. We believe this offers the best of both worlds - users get to genuinely test the software with their actual hardware to see if it works before spending real money, and we retain a bit of leverage to help us obtain the revenue to fund future development.

ScanTango ReviewAn excellent program - Version: 2.2, 8/31/2007 05:15AM PST

and a responsive developer. Many scanners (especially sheet-feed scanners) come with only Windows support or lousy ports of Windows software. ScanTango is pure Mac through and through. Many filters and user-definable configuration options so you can scan exactly the way you want to. Handy PDF manipulation features - reorder pages, combine PDF's etc., and it works on any PDF file, eliminating the need for other utilities for these functions. I do wish it had an "escape" button to abort a scan and eject the paper in the event of a misfeed, like PaperPort had.
