MT-NewsWatcher 3.5.3b3 (Mac OS X)

Very good

My old copy of MTNW started to act badly after I moved to MBP and Leopard but this update seems to get things right again. Except it is faster of course. I just wish it would fetch and cache next image/message in the thread automatically, would make this instanteous. Image window handling is much improved. Interface is just right, I like OS9 functionality and flexibility. Do not make this OSX monolithic UI. [alert admin]

FontThing 1.4.7 (Mac OS X)

Very good

Works fine. It crashed once but I guess that happens with corrupt fonts. Loading fonts is not too slow IMHO as FontVista by Morrison SoftDesign is even slower. Installing fonts as you go is nifty but of course it would be better if this thing would communicate with font managers (like Font Explorer) and generate its own set within FEX. Displaying only one face of a subfolder is not a problem but I wish I could open subfolders by hitting arrow-right (as you can move between fonts with arrow-down and -up). Might also be nice in logowork if size would go up to 200pt. [alert admin]

Random Factor Mahjong 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)

One of the better Mahjongs

Layouts are interesting and animations cool. Might be nice if there was shuffle option for retries -- I rather not would play the same set over and over again trying to find the right path. Mahjong bits scale up rather well in full screen. But I would rather have high resolution Mahjong or even true scalable graphics. Hand cursor seems to tax my computers resources, it moves shakily. Cog 0.05 (Mac OS X)

that's it

The Audioplayer. Accepts folders dropped to app icon, but do not get confused if there are txt, nfo of m3u files also. Sensible interface (though might be more minimalist... like SoundApp was). No key for STOP command, which might be useful, command-. closes list window(?). I would prefer plain arrow key to move next/previous file, but command-arrow works well enough. Does not show which song is playing in the list view -- there should be some icon or indicator for it (well it displays playing song name in the bottom -- it is not enough). Translates numbered filenames to format of track number and name in the listview, which is OK. Would be nice to have option to read track number from tags too and reorder songs according that. Even better would be a command to add track numbers to filenames... All in all, a very good player. Faster and lighter than iTunes, does not get confused like Audion, more sensible and flexible than DropSound. [alert admin]

NotePad 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Exceptional

because this app does something that seemed impossible in OSX: it really READS OS9 NOTEPAD FILES! OMG! FINALLY! Navigation is lacking though: I could not find a way to go next or previous page using keyboard shotcuts. Please add those. [alert admin]

JView 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

I like it

It is fast. Just right tool for a quick peek. Slideshow works pretty well also. It just seems that if you drop a folder, it goes to slideshow mode, and when you drop a bunch of separate images, it opens them as separate images. Well... I can live with that. Caching seems to work nicely, though with hires images there are some responsiveness issues. I wish it would show also embedded color profile in info window. CMYK are shown negative, but that is quite common I guess... [alert admin]

Dropsound 2.90 (Mac OS X)

handy but

Yes, very handy. But drag&drop to APP ICON IN FINDER does not work. Which is quite a let down. Or is my system out of order? For some reason playlist seems to be upside down. Alphabetically last items appear first. It of course may be a system problem, OSX has issues with alphabetical order (*sigh*) FYI, I do not have [ and ] keys in my kbd (they are accessed with shift key). [alert admin]
