The Tube 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Good, basic tuner for analog cable TV in US

I'm a long-time user of the MigliaTV box, which includes a hardware video compressor. That box died (Miglia's response to my inquiry was to ignore it), and I decided to replace it with a less-expensive TVMicro analog tuner. The TVMicro uses "The Tube" software as a controller. My experience has been generally positive. "The Tube" installed easily. There were no problems activating it, and it automatically found all of the analog cable channels. It is inexpensive and it works. I'm able to watch TV on my MacBookPro, which is my main need. I've not yet tried to record anything. [alert admin]

Hogwasher 4.3 (Mac OS X)

4.1 S/N continues to work

When prompted, I entered my Hogwasher 4.1 serial number, etc., and was pleasantly surprised when it worked. So, apparently v4.3 is an "update," not an "upgrade". [alert admin]

WeatherPop Advance 2.4 (Mac OS X)

Works fine.

I've had troubles with earlier versions not keeping wunderground as the primary source. That problem seems to be fixed in v2.4. The best fix that I found for the earlier versions was to use Property List editor to enter wunderground in each of the four source fields (thus deleting any possible access to weather.gov, usatoday, or aol. Development, documentation, and support are not great, but it does the job (well!) for me. [alert admin]

Rebuild Spotlight Index 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Does not index servers

It would be helpful if a future update allowed the user to select mounted volumes to index. In my case, I am connected to several servers, and I still have to use the command line to force Spotlight to index those. [alert admin]

No response from developer

Check the weatherpop Yahoo! group. The developer responds to questions about twice a week in that forum.
