iData 3.0.13 (Mac OS X)

Can't live without iData.

iData is the best freeform database/snippet keeper out there. It's indispensable. I use it mainly as a free-form database with no fields. I see it as a shoe box into which I can throw slips of paper with all kinds of information and find the one I want instantly. I have several "shoe boxes" for different categories of info. I never used multiple fields in iData because I use other databases such as FileMaker and Panorama. I wanted iData to be the shoe box with a zillion notes. Then I realized that I could also keep a database of Entourage email messages in iData3. Wow. The messages are imported with automatic fields for "Subject," "To," "From," etc. It worked without a glitch. So it does have many uses. I agree that the price is on the high side. But it's worth more than that to me. [alert admin]

Doesn't sync for me

Wish I had the luck of most of you. I followed the config directions exactly. But the Palm (4.1, Vx) says: "Incomplete Setup. Please check your network settings." I do go thru an Airport router. Can this be the problem? It's a MAL conduit for me. [alert admin]

I highly recommend VirtualDesktop

I find VirtualDesktop to be wonderfully useful. It gave me one feature that was missing in OSX, which I had in OS9 - to get instantly to the unencumbered desktop where an icon e.g., for a newly downloaded file, could be hiding under a pile of windows. I keep a lot of apps and Finder windows open and find it very annoying to have to dig for the desktop. Someone said that it is slow. For me, the only slow part is when it first opens. It changes desktops almost instantly. [alert admin]

iData Pro X 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)

I use iData…

only in Freeform mode, as more of a brain inhancement than a database. I throw all kinds of info at it without planning and structure, yet can find it again in an instant using Boolean "and." I copy and paste lots of things I read - e.g., someone's hotel recommendation, books to read, household hints that I might want a year later. I am on many email lists and want to remember things like a printer review, instructions for unsubscribing and keyboard shortcuts. It's so easy to just copy and paste messages or info from the Web. I couldn't live without this app. My only complaint is that it is pure text. It does keep Web & email addresses in clickable form but I would like to be able to use bold formatting sometimes. iData is unique. [alert admin]

A great choice...considering the alternatives...

My main complaint about iView is that it keeps losing track of my media. The thumbnails are there but for the actual media I get "File not found (-43)." Has that been improved in v3? Or don't others have that problem? Otherwise, it is much handier than iPhoto.
